Medications treat symptoms, but antidepressants help only slightly in case of undiagnosed ADHD or they have problematic effects on bipolar patients. Diagnoses are not just labels, and the chance of undiagnosed ADHD is particularly high for autistic people or people with learning disabilities.
Getting a new diagnosis can be unnerving and time-consuming, but an effective treatment can make up for it.
