US stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the basic materials, healthcare and financials sectors led shares higher. At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.56%, while the S&P 500 Index added 0.46%, and the NASDAQ Composite Index climbed 0.45%. Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1,680 to 1,040 and 95 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2,156 rose and 1,256 declined, while 199 ended unchanged.
