5th National Cyber Talent Summer Camp Challenge Program, second round as Bahir Dar University Held at BiT–BDU

In a decisive step toward building a digitally skilled generation, Bahir Dar University, in collaboration with the Information Network Security Administration (INSA), has launched the 5th National Cyber Talent Training Program. This marks the second time Bahir Dar University has hosted the initiative, underscoring its growing role in shaping Ethiopia’s technological future.
The program was introduced by Dr. Amare Kassaw, Deputy Scientific Director for Academic Affairs, who highlighted its long-standing impact and detailed its objectives.
Dr. Mitiku Damtie, Scientific Director of Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, gave a detailed explanation about the institution, the works being carried out by the university, and the training program.

Dr. Mitiku Damtie, emphasized that the training provided to students helps enhance their software capacity and cyber skills. He stated that the university is working to build a skilled workforce in cybersecurity to realize the 2030 Digital Initiative plan. He added that in the second round of training, 80 young people are currently being trained.”
The training equips selected students with advanced software development capacity and cybersecurity skills, essential for Ethiopia’s Digital 2030 Initiative.
Currently, 80 young talents are undergoing intensive training in the second round, with the aim of creating a workforce capable of safeguarding national digital infrastructure and driving innovation.
The Deputy Head of the Amhara Region Innovation and Technology Bureau, Yichale Yigzaw, stated that efforts are being made to make the region’s services technology-supported and digital. He explained that cybersecurity training is currently being provided at Bahir Dar and Debre Berhan Universities. He added that the plan is to expand this training to all universities in the region in the future.”
This shows a strong push toward digital transformation in regional services, with a focus on cybersecurity training and capacity building at universities like Bahir Dar University and Debre Berhan University.
Mr. Bishaw Beyene, Director of INSA’s Cyber Talent Center, explained that the program is designed to protect Ethiopia’s information systems, strengthen cyber sovereignty, and foster innovation. He stressed the importance of nurturing youth with the intellectual, physical, and ethical capacity to thrive in a rapidly changing technological world.
The Deputy Director General of Information Network Security Administration, Hannibal Lema, stated that young people possess deep potential, are eager to discover new things, and are quick to embrace new ideas and experiences. He emphasized that this is why focus has been placed on youth. He noted that the training participants have been given the opportunity to gain awareness of cybersecurity, improve their skills, build their character, and deepen their knowledge of technology. He added that going forward, they will strive to serve their country effectively in the fields of cybersecurity and technology.”
This highlights the emphasis on youth empowerment, the importance of cybersecurity awareness, and the role of technology education in preparing the next generation to contribute meaningfully to national development.
