Allah describes the angels in surah Ghafir [40] by saying:
Those who carry the throne and those around it exalt the praises of their Lord, believe in Him and seek forgiveness for those who believe [7]
The reciter Khalaf ibn Hisham al-Bazar said:
I was once reciting to Sulaym ibn 'Eesaa and when I reached
"... and seek forgiveness for those who believe" [Ghafir ayah 7]
he started crying and said, "O Khalaf, how Allah honors the believers! Even when he is sleeping on his bed the angels are seeking forgiveness for him!"
