RIPPLE PLANS 4-PHASE QUANTUM-RESISTANT UPGRADE FOR XRPL
Ripple is preparing the XRP Ledger (XRPL) for future quantum computing threats with a four-phase security roadmap, targeting a full transition to post-quantum cryptography by 2028.
The 4 phases:
Q-Day Readiness: Emergency measures to help users migrate to quantum-safe accounts if current cryptography is compromised.
H1 2026: Testing NIST-recommended post-quantum algorithms, including ML-DSA, on AlphaNet.
H2 2026: Running post-quantum and existing signature algorithms in parallel on Devnet/Testnet for developer testing.
By 2028: Proposing an XRPL amendment to introduce native post-quantum signatures and transition the network.
XRPL already supports features such as key rotation, which could make the future migration easier without requiring users to create entirely new accounts.
Ripple says the goal is to preserve XRPL’s current strengths while preparing the network for the potential arrival of powerful quantum computers.
