Solana is rolling out SIMD-0525, targeting a reduction in block time from 400ms to just 200ms, potentially doubling block production speed.
The upgrade will be deployed in stages: 400ms → 350ms → 300ms → 250ms → 200ms
The first phase, reducing block time to 350ms, is expected around epoch 1020. Each stage will be monitored before moving to the next.
The phased rollout allows Solana to manage technical risks, particularly block skips, while maintaining network stability.
Once fully deployed, shorter block times could reduce transaction latency, improve responsiveness, and boost performance for high-speed applications such as DeFi and trading.
This is part of Solana’s broader performance roadmap, as the network continues to focus on speed, scalability, and stability.
