You probably already know Robinhood was almost called CashCat. But hidden in its original 2013 launch is another forgotten name: Spacetime.
Before Vlad Tenev and Baiju Bhatt co-founded Robinhood, they created a company called Spacetime Industries. They went on to release the Robinhood App under this company, and subsequently rebranded to Robinhood Markets, Inc.
Interestingly, Robinhood was originally released as a stock prediction app, then later enabled users to actually trade stocks on the platform after getting regulatory appproval.
There are multiple news articles about Robinhood's 2013 launch and their funding seed round. Spacetime was initially backed by Google Ventures , and later that year raised a $3 million seed round (led by Index Ventures, with a16z participating) to fund their transition into stock trading.
