He was the “Milky” and he sang out “Milko!” when he left the day’s delivery and collected the previous day’s empties (which we always washed). The milkman’s horses knew the route and when the milky ran off to deliver to three houses sequentially, the horse would saunter down to the third house to meet him. School milk was provided in 1/3 pint bottles with a few ½ pint ones.
