Rakhigarhi Human Skeletal Remains Significance: ▪️Biological Profile of Harappans: Analysis of human skeletons using osteology, palaeopathology, stable isotopes, and ancient DNA (aDNA) will reconstruct the age, sex, ancestry, diet, health, disease patterns, mobility, and lifestyle of the Harappan population. ▪️DNA Evidence and Aryan Migration Debate: Earlier Rakhigarhi aDNA lacked detectable Steppe pastoralist ancestry, suggesting the Mature Harappan population predated Steppe-related gene flow. The newly discovered skeletons may provide stronger evidence on the origins, migration, and population history of ancient Indians. ▪️Urban Life and Material Culture: Rakhigarhi, the largest Harappan city, reveals planned streets, drainage systems, craft centres, cemeteries, along with pottery, beads, ornaments, and burial goods, helping reconstruct urban organization, trade, technology, and mortuary practices. ▪️Multidisciplinary Research: The collaboration between ASI, AnSI, BSIP, BHU, UCL, and CCMB integrates archaeology, anthropology, genetics, and environmental sciences, advancing the study of Harappan origins, health, adaptation, and human evolution.
