The third interception attempt against the Ukrainian Su-24M was also unsuccessful. The R-37/77 air-to-air missile launched by the Su-35 self-destructed between Kramatorsk and Slovyansk after the Su-24M flew away. However, the Su-24 appears to have abandoned its combat mission due to the risk of being shot down, and is flying west back to Kharkiv/Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
The Russian Su-35 continues to circle east of Severodonetsk, Luhansk Oblast, at an altitude of 6,300 metres.
