Esta es la transcripción de la intervención del Secretario de Asuntos Internacionales en el evento político electoral y religioso conservador de Faith & Freedom: Road to majority 2024.
Moderator (M): Secretary Eduardo Mejía, you actively serve as the secretary of International Affairs for the attorney general's office of Guatemala. How has the lack of technical assistance and cooperation, so we've heard, from the U.S Government to the work of the Attorney General's office of Guatemala affected our people here in the United States?
Secretario (S): Ok, seriously affect the fight of against organized crime on the areas of irregular immigration, human trafficking, especially child trafficking, especially well when you talk about drug trafficking, especially when you talk about fentanyl trafficking, money laundry and extradition of people that have committed crimes against the American people.
Despite of the lack of cooperation, the Public Ministry continues to collaborate with some agencies to United States and Guatemala, just with the idea to keep fighting against this crimes, but in difference about the government towards to the fight against this this issues is evident regardless the political blockade that we have received we are currently working on different type of models, that work because in these type of this type of phenomenon because we know that illegal, the illegal irregular migration is serious problem for us, as this for you as a destination and for us as a transit country. But it is said that the staff of the US Embassy in Guatemala they don´t care or they don't have any interest to keep fighting with us against these crimes.
M: Oh! So they got disinterested in being an ally against these crimes.
S: Yeah of course and is contradictory because their policy of the government is promoting the immigration to the, to the United States and we as a Public Ministry we are fighting against the regular migration so we have a special models to tackle back these phenomena.
M: Wow! Well, thank you for helping us. They're trying to help us, Wow! What can you tell us about the recent investigations of the Attorney General's office for human trafficking especially of Guatemalan children to the United States?
S: Well what can I say is that a complaint was file and the Public Ministry started investigations with the possibility that Save the Children may be involved in traffic and operation and other NGOs such as Changing the Way We Care, World Childhood Foundation Arise and La Union el Pueblo Entero.
Therefore a letter was addressed to the attorney general for Texas, Mr Ken Paxton to establish communications and start the working together in this investigation to find the truth behind this terrible situation.
M: Wow! So their investigating this what's been filed regarding this organization, right it's called Save the Children…
S: Yes, the complaints say that Save The Children was involved. Possible ist involved in this child trafficking in well other way the complaint also is stated that the children were places in shelters in organization in Texas and there is the possibility that they all the information provided by the complaint is was a is also have some sexual abuse for this chap.
M: Oh wow! so these so these filed complaints involves sexual abuse to these children and so Guatemala is trying to help stop human trafficking their Public Ministry, the Attorney General's office. So you have your office had to reach the attorney general's office in Texas because this administration would not respond.
Public: Wow! Wow!
M: Interesting. Very interesting with all that you were telling us. What is the position of the Central Government or the State Department against the officials of the attorney general's office who investigate important matters of interest to the United States.
