Garlic & Lemon: A Traditional Remedy — But Not a Treatment for… — Dr. Alan Mandell — TG.ME

🍋 Garlic & Lemon: A Traditional Remedy — But Not a Treatment for Shortness of Breath
Garlic and lemon have been used in traditional wellness practices for generations. A mixture of crushed garlic and lemon juice is often promoted online as a way to “clean the blood,” eliminate fatigue, and improve breathing.
But shortness of breath should never be treated as something to manage with a homemade remedy alone. 🫁
Sudden or severe breathlessness can be caused by conditions involving the heart, lungs, blood vessels, infections, anemia, or other medical problems. If breathing difficulty is new, worsening, occurs at rest, or comes with chest pain, fainting, confusion, blue lips, or severe weakness, urgent medical attention is important. 🚨
🧄 What do garlic and lemon actually offer?
Garlic contains sulfur-containing compounds such as allicin, which have been extensively studied for their biological effects. Regular dietary garlic may have modest effects on certain cardiovascular risk factors, including blood pressure.
🍋 Lemons provide vitamin C, citric acid, and beneficial plant compounds. They can contribute to hydration and overall dietary quality, but lemon juice does not “cleanse” the blood.
The specific claim that this mixture can cure shortness of breath, dramatically improve the blood, or reliably eliminate fatigue within 10–14 days has not been established by good clinical evidence.
⚠️ One more point: keeping raw garlic and lemon juice at room temperature for weeks in a homemade preparation is not a reliable preservation method. Food safety matters, especially when a mixture is stored for an extended period.
🌿 Traditional recipes can be interesting parts of cultural health practices, but breathing problems deserve something more important than a remedy: finding the reason behind them. 🩺❤️
