⚙️ Microsoft plans to scale its own AI chips
Announced on October 12: Microsoft plans multi-gigawatt Azure Maia deployments starting in 2027, making Maia its primary inference system for Microsoft products and services.
The company expects Maia 300 to deliver 40% more tokens per megawatt than leading GPU-based systems. That is a projected system-efficiency gain, not a measured result across every AI workload.
Maia 200 is already serving production workloads, including Copilot; Maia 300 production deployments are planned for 2027.
