🛰 Google’s AI hardware is now being tested in orbit.

A Project Suncatcher prototype, built with Planet, launched on SpaceX’s Transporter-18 mission on October 1. Google says it has made contact and the satellite is operating as expected.

The experiment will measure how Google’s TPUs — chips designed for machine learning — handle spaceflight, radiation and extreme temperatures. The results will help assess whether future AI infrastructure could operate in space.

This is an early hardware experiment; large-scale deployment is still a research goal.
