International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) The IOI is an annual competitive programming competition and one of the International Science Olympiads for secondary school students. The first IOI was held in 1989 in Pravetz, 🇧🇬 Bulgaria. Each country sends a team of up to four students, selected through national computing contests. At the IOI, students compete individually, and there is no official team ranking. The contest spans two days, during which participants solve six challenging algorithmic tasks by writing computer programs in C++ 💻. Task materials are published on the contest's website shortly after the competition concludes. On each competition day, participants are typically given three problems to solve within five hours⏳. Scores from both days are combined for each contestant. Medals are awarded based on relative scores, with the top 50% of contestants receiving medals in a ratio of approximately 1:2:3:6 (gold 🥇: silver 🥈: bronze 🥉: no medal). About 1/12 of contestants earn gold medals. 🇨🇳 China leads the all-time medal table with 102 gold 🥇, 28 silver 🥈, and 12 bronze 🥉 medals.
