Day 5 of 10:
Master Chef
Imagine yourself as a chef in a culinary competition, tasked with preparing 15 diverse dishes within a strict timeframe. While you love food and can cook well, your anxiety about the competition leads you to focus more on garnishing and decorating the dishes rather than concentrating on their taste. As a result, while your dish looks stunning, when the judge tastes it, they are disappointed because the core taste is missing.
The key takeaway here is that garnishing should enhance the taste, not overshadow or replace the dish's essence.
Now, let’s relate this to answer writing. We've noticed many answers with great introductions and conclusions, but the main body fails to meet the core demand of the question. The lesson here is that your intros and conclusions should enhance your score, but only after you’ve adequately addressed the core requirement of the question.
In other words: Body > Intro/Conclusion
Garnishing:
Writing an attractive answer isn't just about crafting elaborate intros and conclusions. It's about making your answer clear and easy for the examiner to understand, by underlining key points, including flow charts, maps, and diagrams. Once you've addressed the core demand and made your answer easy to read, your job is done, even if your intro and conclusion are simple.
Using the Right Ingredients:
In this context, the "ingredients" refer to using the right data, examples, and subject-specific keywords relevant to the answer.
Create Your Own Recipe:
Avoid relying solely on memorizing pre-set recipes (question-answer formats). If you possess good subject knowledge and confidence, you'll be able to craft "instant recipes" no matter how the question is framed.
Local Flavor:
Examiners aren't expecting a "fusion dish" or answers that stray too far from the question. They want to see how well you have responded to the core demand of the question and will be looking for a touch of "local Telangana flavor" in your answers.
Finishing the Menu:
It’s not just about writing a few standout answers and scoring high on them. Success in this competition comes from attempting the maximum number of questions and securing average marks for each, ensuring you finish the entire paper.
Thank you for your patience in following our cooking sessions. Our goal is to help you understand with practical examples and a bit of fun! Feel free to ignore this if it's not your cup of tea.
No one is born a great cook, one learns by doing.
All the best!
