At what point do we admit that this is no longer just about representation, but about turning caste into the currency of electoral politics?
The more politicians promise reservation to different caste groups, the more they incentivise people to think of themselves as competing caste blocs, not equal citizens.
Equality should mean giving everyone a fair shot. Merit should still matter. And politicians should be competing to create more opportunities, not competing to offer bigger slices of a reserved pie.
If caste is the solution to every political problem, caste will remain the problem forever.
