🇬🇳 30 killed as massive landfill collapses in Guinea.
A towering mountain of rubbish collapsed in Conakry after heavy overnight rain, burying homes and people beneath tonnes of waste and mud.
The disaster struck around 2am while residents were asleep.
At least 30 people were killed and six critically injured, while rescue teams continue searching through the debris.
The landfill had already been declared unsafe, with authorities planning to close it and relocate the waste. Yet vulnerable families were still living beside the site.
Guinea is rich in minerals, including some of the world’s largest bauxite reserves, but remains one of West Africa’s poorest countries.
A disaster exposing the deadly cost of poverty, rapid urbanisation and failing infrastructure.
