🇧🇩🇮🇳 Bangladesh-India water deal is heading for a new battle.
India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has reportedly assured Bihar that the state’s concerns over the Farakka Barrage and the India-Bangladesh water-sharing treaty will be raised during the renewal process.
The treaty is due for renewal by the end of 2026.
Bihar argues that much of the water reaching Farakka originates from its catchment areas—but the state has not received what it considers its fair share for drinking water, irrigation and industry.
Now Bihar wants a seat at the table.
If its demands enter the negotiations, the renewal could become far more complicated for Dhaka.
The question is simple:
Will India’s internal water politics reshape its next deal with Bangladesh?
