U.S. soldiers ambushed by three T@liban fighters, the unit (1st Platoon, B Troop, 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment):
The squad from the 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment was conducting a standard foot patrol through a wooded, rural area when they were suddenly pinned down by intense, close-range small arms fire from hidden Taliban positions.
Because the landscape was mostly flat with scattered trees and low brush, the soldiers had very little immediate vertical cover. The platoon quickly dropped into the prone position (as seen in the image) to minimize their profiles, using the shallow contours of the ground and fallen autumn leaves as concealment. They instantly began returning a massive volume of suppressive fire with M249 squad automatic weapons and M4 carbines to gain fire superiority and force the insurgents to break contact.
The footage originates from their deployment during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) 11–12, with the video heavily circulating online around February 2013.
