The U.S. government rates El Salvador a Level 1 "Exercise Normal Precautions" country, the safest possible designation.
In contrast, Sweden holds a Level 2 "Exercise Increased Caution" advisory due to concerns over terrorism.
The leader of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele has cracked down on organized crime, lowering homicide rates dramatically to approximately 1.3 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2025.
