The Nihilist Penguin: In 2007, while filming a documentary in Antarctica, Werner Herzog noticed something strange.
Thousands of penguins were moving toward the sea for food, others toward the colony to live together. But one penguin stood alone. Suddenly, it turned and started walking toward the mountains- almost 70 kilometers away. No food. No shelter. Only Death.
Even if scientists picked it up and placed it back with the colony, it would turn around again and walk toward the mountains. Science still doesn't fully know why. Experts believe that sometimes penguins become mentally disoriented and socially isolated. They detach from the group and choose a path that looks strange to everyone else-but makes sense to them.
And that's why this story hits us so deeply. Because maybe, in our own lives, we spend so much time following the crowd that we forget how far we've walked away from our peace and happiness.
