A sun halo is an optical phenomenon that appears as a ring of light encircling the sun. It is caused by the refraction, reflection, and dispersion of light through ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere, typically in cirrostratus clouds. The halo usually forms a circle around the sun with a radius of approximately 22 degrees.
