Finland has become the latest country to sever its funding ties with UNRWA, announcing it will not renew its multi-year €20 million agreement with the UN agency after it expires this year.
Finnish Foreign Trade Minister Ville Tavio - who previously suspended contributions in 2024 after UNRWA employees were found to have participated in the October 7, 2023, massacre - confirmed that Finland's humanitarian contributions to Palestinians will continue, but through other organizations including the World Food Programme. Israel's Foreign Ministry welcomed the decision: "UNRWA is a hotbed of terrorism. It is part of the problem, not part of the solution." Finland joins a growing list of countries that have cut or suspended UNRWA funding following revelations that hundreds of its employees maintained ties to terror groups Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
