Pakistan has let down its Western masters ad nauseam. It misappropriated weaponry and funds during the Afghan Jihad of 1980 to 1989, propped up the Taliban in 1996 once the US lost interest, then sheltered Osama Bin Laden and Taliban leaders during the alleged War on Terror. All was forgiven, because Pakistan is a vital piece of real estate. It sits beside Iran, China, Afghanistan and the Arabian Sea. It offered Washington the Badaber airbase against the Soviets, CENTO and SEATO membership, the Karachi to Torkham supply line for NATO, and a counterweight to a non aligned India. A hard military regime delivers all this faster than a messy democracy, and that suits the West even better. Agree?
