A coastal excursion for the Lorth lineage was less a peaceful retreat and more a tactical disaster. As Papa, I stood surveying our beach setup, meticulously slathering myself in an experimental, heavy-duty layer of sunscreen labeled SPF 50+++++ until I resembled an aristocrat dipped in wet plaster. "Papa, why do you look like a Victorian ghost trying to evade tax collectors?" a cheeky voice chimed from nearby. I smoothed my chalk-white nose with dignified restraint. "Correction, my precocious progeny: I am merely constructing an impenetrable armor-plating against ultraviolet degradation." She laughed from beneath an oversized umbrella. "Well, while you weaponize your pores against the sun, your kids is currently declaring war on a passing hermit crab." I looked down at my immaculate loafers, which were already succumbing to an aggressive infiltration of damp sand. Surviving a Lorth family beach day under layers of SPF 50++++ was the true test of sovereignty.
