Special Intensive Revision: A Small Inconvenience Today, A Safer Electoral Roll Tomorrow
Strict SIR verification is underway in my native state. I received a notice to submit my address proof documents again because of a small mistake in my name made during data entry.
Just now submitted all my required and genuine documents at the Election Commission office and received a date for physical verification. I have no problem with it. I am happy to attend the physical enquiry on the given date and cooperate fully.
My neighbour also received a notice and was initially angry. He asked, “Why is our government doing this? How many times do we have to prove that we are Indians?”
I told him, if we are genuine Indian citizens, why should we fear verification? Thorough verification of electoral rolls is important to ensure eligible citizens remain on the rolls and to help identify and purge illegal aliens who are not eligible to be on the electoral rolls. He understood and calmed down.
If you are a genuine citizen, please cooperate. Submit your documents, attend the verification when called, and let the process take its course. We may have to spend a little time today, but our cooperation can help ensure that our electoral rolls belong to those who genuinely have the right to be there. That is something worth doing for India and for our future generations.
