Volkswagen's Osnabrück car factory is being turned into a defence plant producing components for Israeli Rafael's Iron Dome.
The original direct VW-Rafael deal was blocked by Qatar, whose sovereign wealth fund controls around 17% of VW voting rights and has 2 seats on its supervisory board.
So they found a workaround.
VW will sell the plant to Aurelius Capital and the state of Lower Saxony, which will then cooperate with Rafael on air defence production. Around 1,400 of 1,800 jobs are expected to be saved.
