Let’s practice chatting with native speakers!🤳
📋We’ve prepared a list of the most common acronyms used by native speakers in chats.
🧐Acronyms have existed since ancient times, but they remained uncommon until the 1800s. There are several theories about the oldest acronym in the world. Some believe it was ICHTHUS (the Greek word for "fish"), while others point to Tanakh (the Hebrew Old Testament). It’s hard to say which one is truly the first, but nowadays we can’t imagine our messages without “LOL” or “thx”!
😡On the other hand, some people think acronyms make the language less expressive and may harm its uniqueness. And there’s some truth to that — listening to and understanding acronyms isn’t always easy.
😜Still, these “shortcuts” make speaking — especially chatting — faster and, in a way, more fun. You can even create your own acronyms and make conversations with your friends more entertaining!
