Nifty Falls for Fourth Straight Session; Closes at Six-Week Low
Sectoral performance was mixed: Realty, Media and Chemical ended as the strongest gainers, whereas IT, FMCG and Auto faced selling pressure and closed as the top losers.
Broader markets bucked the index's weakness, closing in the green. Nifty Midcap 100 rose 0.37%, Smallcap 100 gained 1.20%. Breadth stayed strong (advance-decline ratio: 1.73), signaling fresh buying at lower levels after three days of profit-booking.
The rupee logged its biggest single-day gain since July 27, appreciating 49 paise to 94.48, driven by heavy inflows under the RBI's concessional swap scheme ($136.4 billion, well above expectations). A softer dollar and steady crude added support.
