"The big U.S. numbers A large study of FBI Supplementary Homicide Reports covering 1976–2007 examined 94,146 filicide arrests. Overall, 57.4% of offenders were male and 42.6% female. But that overall figure includes older children and even adult victims, where male perpetrators become much more predominant. When you restrict it to infants (<1 year), however: 48.8% male offenders 51.2% female offenders So, essentially 50/50. The authors explicitly concluded that fathers were as likely as mothers to kill infants. And there's an older U.S. statistic that may be the one you're remembering: among children under five murdered between 1976 and 2004, 30% were killed by their mothers and 31% by their fathers. In other words, parents accounted for about 61% of these murders, and the parental contribution was almost exactly 50/50."
