India electric PV sales jump 51% in August; Tata leads, Mahindra gains as MG slips

Electric-PV registrations reached 211,575 units during January-August 2026, up 79.7% from 117,756 in the corresponding period of 2025. Overall passenger-vehicle registrations grew 21.2% over the same period, meaning electric PVs expanded at nearly four times the pace of the broader market. Passenger-EV penetration rose to 7.6% in August from 5.8% a year earlier, despite easing from 8.1% in July as registrations fell 12% sequentially. Tata withstood the August slowdown better than its closest rivals, even as the longer-term numbers point to a much stronger structural expansion.
