Stocks open higher as yields fall, chipmakers gain

U.S. equities rose on Tuesday as Treasury yields fell for another day. Chip stocks also moved higher, with investors looking ahead to Nvidia’s earnings.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 155 points, or 0.3%. The S&P 500 climbed 0.3%, and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.7%.
The benchmark 10-year Treasury note yield slid to 4.658%. It declined on Monday as well after CNBC reported that the Treasury Department could use its $1 trillion General Account to fund bond repurchases.
Investors were also moving into chip stocks as they geared up for Nvidia earnings on Wednesday after the bell. Shares of Advanced Micro Devices and Micron Technology added 3% each, while Intel advanced more than 2%. Nvidia was up more than 1%, and the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) moved up more than 2%.
Inflation is also top of mind for traders, with the personal consumption expenditure price index reading for July out on Wednesday.
