💢 Vladimir Putin used his Eastern Economic Forum address to call for the Russian Far East and Arctic to become a testing ground for advanced technologies and “bold engineering thought.” He said work is starting on a cargo-drone project involving the Transport Ministry, GLONASS and Chinese partners, while the Far East should become a proving ground for civilian UAVs and other new technologies.
Russia is also aiming for year-round navigation along the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor, which Putin said should improve the flexibility and security of international supply routes. He instructed the government to rapidly finalize the corridor’s development plan.
From January 1, 2027, a unified preferential business regime will operate across the Far East and Arctic, with existing benefits preserved. A special regulatory regime is also planned to accelerate technology testing. Putin further called for guaranteed demand for output from new regional enterprises and a program to attract Russian and foreign specialists to Far Eastern research centers.
