His is not another human ideology among many. You see, the liberation which He speaks of is Himself. He is freedom Himself. Only in Him, will man be able to experience true freedom.
At the end of the reading, the Lord closes the book and then delivers the shortest homily in the bible, “This text is being fulfilled today even as you listen.” With these words Jesus answered two questions.
“Whom did Isaiah write of?” Jesus answered, “Isaiah wrote of Me.”
“When will this come to pass?” Jesus answered, “Now.”
So as we continue to pray and wait for a time when our country will also experience a true year of favour from the Lord, where racial justice will supplant racial inequality, where true acceptance will replace prejudice, where integrity will uproot corruption and cronyism, let us be confident that we can already taste the fruits of what the Lord had promised. We do not need to wait for another 50 or 100 years to see this happen. The fruits of the year of the Lord’s favour is for the taking, here and now, as long as we are prepared to accept His words as true and be radically transformed by it from within. What our country needs, however, are more prophets who will speak truth to power. But be warned, “no prophet is ever accepted in his own country.” But whenever the Word or God is preached and heard, we can be certain of this:, “this text is being fulfilled today even as you listen.” God bless our King, our leaders and our people.
