Today, we are reminded that we live in dire times, when the love of many has grown cold, when peoples' conscience are deadened, when our leaders are morally bankrupt, seeking to force upon the world immorality and lies. We live in times, where we need more courageous witnesses like St John the Baptist. Today, we contemplate the example of St John the Baptist, who preached repentance to all, preparing the way for Christ. He preached even to the mighty and powerful who could have received Christ, had they repented. And today it is the Baptist who calls us to speak truth to power, that the powerful may know they are weak, that the Truth is eternally triumphant, and that, the Way the Truth and the Life is Jesus Christ, who alone is the Saviour of the World.
