Tenofovir It's an antiviral drug used for HIV & HBV that works as a nucleotide analog reverse-transcriptase inhibitor (NtRTI). In HIV infection it inhibits reverse-transcriptase, while in HBV infection it inhibits DNA polymerase. Adverse effects include renal toxicity and bone loss. It has two forms: tenofovir disoproxil (TDF), and tenofovir alafenamide (TAF) which is better tolerated, needs lower therapeutic doses (25 mg in contrast with TDF which requires 300 mg), and has lower rates of adverse effects.
