Is "Mawtini" Changing?.. Parliamentary Proposal Reaches Parliament Presidency to Prepare a New National Anthem for Iraq
MP Yasser Salah submitted a proposal to the Presidency of the Council of Representatives to change the Iraqi national anthem and form a specialized parliamentary committee tasked with preparing a proposal for a new anthem that expresses Iraq's identity, history, and cultural heritage.
In a signed request from a number of MPs, Salah stated that the proposal stems from the importance of the national anthem as a sovereign and unifying national symbol, and what it represents in reflecting Iraq's identity, history, and the sacrifices of its people.
The proposal calls for forming a specialized parliamentary committee to receive and study proposals submitted by artists, writers, intellectuals, academics, and experts, as a prelude to preparing a comprehensive vision for a new national anthem.
According to the request, the proposed anthem must express Iraq's identity, status, and history, align with the aspirations of Iraqis, and embody the country's cultural and national heritage.
