Following and Emulating the Character and Actions of Imam al-Mahdi (aj)
Following the Imam (aj) and taking him as a role model in one’s character and actions, to the extent that a believer is able to do so according to their circumstances, is the essence of being a Shi’a and the true meaning of being a follower of the Imam.
Through this, one attains perfection of faith, complete allegiance to the Imam, companionship with him on the Day of Resurrection, and proximity to him in Paradise.
As Amir al-Mu’minin (as) states in his letter to Uthman ibn Hunayf, whom he had appointed as governor of Basra:
“Be aware that every follower has an Imam whom he follows and from whose light of knowledge he benefits.”
