Agent @PkmnTrainerJ has recently been in contact with Brian Rose, the game director of Ingress, and has asked him some questions about OPR/Recon, Overclock and a few other things.
Regarding OPR/Recon, the team did not have time yet to make any meaningful changes to it, however it remains on the to-do list to work on. The same applies to questions about a potential new player ambassador or advocate program, while plans still exist to work out a new plan for it, it hasn't been redesigned yet.
With regards to Overclock and it being disabled, Brian explains that the feature relied on the now discontinued Niantic Lightship ARDK's VPS. The new Niantic Spatial SDK and VPS 2.0 that was released as a replacement by the Niantic Spatial team do not support the same use cases. While the platform team previously focused on AR for real-world gaming, Niantic Spatial now serves different customers with different feature requests.
Brian also clarified that the development team's primary priority is completing the backend rearchitecture initiated after the May 16 Orion Sydney and Prague Anomalies. The goal is to run this new backend full-time, rather than exclusively during Anomaly weekends as it does now, to improve game stability and performance. The system requires further time to reach code completion, undergo testing, and ship to production.
As mentioned in an Email Brian sent to attendees of the Sydney and Prague Anomalies, we should recieve further updates regarding this backend work in a new blog post soon.
