It was a whole; it was the possibility from which past, present and future arise; it was the Alpha! And whilst creation—which is destined to return to the Creator—unfolds, past, present and future appear in separate forms. But when creation has reached its fulfilment, time will once again be a whole, an undivided whole; it will then be the Omega! Now, when the past and the future—which constitute temporal extension—contract for a moment and, together with the present, form a point that is not extended in time, then that moment becomes eternity. In such a moment, which is simultaneously eternity, destiny can be recognised; the Alpha and the Omega can be experienced; such a moment is a moment of spiritual presence; in such moments we are not merely individual human beings; in such moments we experience oneness with the Eternal—the Beginning and the End! This 12th August seems to be such a moment, not only for the individual human being, but for the whole of humanity and the Earth. If, during the eclipse (and before and beyond it), we use all our strength to build the Grail Castle within our own hearts, experience our connection with Christ, and draw upon the courage of Michael—who places the cosmic iron in our hands—then on 12 August there will be a counterforce radiating out into the cosmos as rays of human will, and not merely the satanic forces of lies. The total eclipse will begin at around 5.30 pm and end at around 8.00 pm CET. We should be particularly mindful of the time when the eclipse is at its strongest in Spain, that is, towards the end of the event. Here we have a physical event that certainly has a spiritual content.” (GA 213, 2nd Lecture) The Saros cycle 126 and the course of tomorrow’s solar eclipse, during which all that is satanic is to be sent out into the cosmos to counteract the coming years from 2030 to 2033, also point to another connection. The Saros cycle began in the year 1179, at a time when the Inquisition was threatening to annihilate the Cathars and their Grail secret once and for all. And the path of the eclipse passes close to the North Pole – that is, the point on Earth where the magnetic field does not form a protective shield around the Earth, but instead connects it directly to the cosmos – and then ends in northern Spain, the site of the Cathars’ annihilation. And the Cathars’ Grail story and the Grail Castle in *Parzival* are closely intertwined. Parzival represents the individual who finds the path to the Grail Castle from within his own self, because his upbringing prevented him from fulfilling his mission towards the Grail Castle on the basis of what he had learnt. And with the end of the Kali Yuga, all of us – humanity as a whole – have become Parzival-like figures. Finding the path to the Grail Castle from one’s own self and fulfilling one’s tasks in life is now the destiny of every single human being. It is as though all the opposing forces have prepared to install a ‘black Grail’ in the cosmos in order to prevent humanity’s path to the true Grail. At the same time, however, 12 August also marks the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, which originates from the sword of the constellation Perseus and, according to Rudolf Steiner, brings Michael’s iron to Earth. A battle between Michael and the dragon will therefore take place on 12 August; whilst this will have a cosmic effect, it must be fought out by human beings. And I would like to mention a third aspect. It is time, which we normally experience as a progression from the past through the present into the future. The present is merely the boundary between the past and the future, and thus has no temporal extension. It is like a nothingness, but an all-determining nothingness, for it is in the present that the decision is made – from the future, which is infinitely open to shaping – as to what is to become the enduring form of the past. The present is a form-creating (ethereal) entity within time as we experience it (Rudolf Steiner also refers to the etheric body as the ‘time body’ and the ‘body of formative forces’). 342·Aug 11
