The move has placed increased strain on deployed U.S. forces, especially for air defense personnel whose standard deployment has gone from 9 months to a year, and even more for forces originally deployed in Europe or the Pacific and that were relocated to the Middle East.
The U.S. Navy is also facing increased pressure, even beyond the more publicized cases of the aircraft carriers, and most of the 19 U.S. warships operating in the region are facing issues such as multiple consecutive months at sea without port stops.
