🕰 SATOSHI WAS THINKING ABOUT ZERO-KNOWLEDGE PROOFS IN 2010
On August 11, 2010 — more than six years before Zcash launched — Satoshi Nakamoto discussed zero-knowledge proofs on BitcoinTalk.
He wrote:
“It’s hard to think of how to apply zero-knowledge-proofs in this case.”
At the time, Satoshi was exploring whether advanced cryptography could help verify transactions without requiring everyone to know all of the underlying information.
Years later, Zcash would put zero-knowledge cryptography at the core of its protocol — enabling transactions to be verified while sensitive transaction data can remain private.
Zcash wasn't created by Satoshi, and we shouldn't rewrite history.
But the connection is fascinating:
An idea Satoshi was already thinking about in 2010 became one of the defining technologies behind Zcash.
Sometimes the most important ideas arrive before the technology needed to make them practical.
