How did the attack unfold?
• June: Hackers infected the computer of a Binance engineer through a modified Homebrew tool downloaded during the installation of AI software.
• September: Another employee was targeted through a fake recruitment process. During a fraudulent job interview, they were tricked into downloading a malicious file onto their work computer.
• October 20: Attackers used the compromised device and Binance’s internal AI tool to gain access to the computers of two additional developers.
• October 29: Using stolen credentials and employee privileges, they executed a malicious script that enabled the attack on the exchange’s wallets.
