It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Haji Najib Mohammed, a respected elder, religious and community leader, and one of the important voices of conscience within the Ethiopian Muslim diaspora community. For decades, Haji Najib devoted himself to serving his community and advocating for the dignity, religious freedom, and rights of Ethiopian Muslims. His life reflected courage, perseverance, faith, and a deep commitment to justice. He was among those who understood that defending the rights of one community ultimately strengthens the dignity and freedom of all Ethiopians. The First Hijrah Foundation remembers him as one of its beloved founders who dedicated approximately 40 years of his life to community service. Such a lifetime of service leaves behind more than memories—it leaves institutions, strengthened communities, and generations inspired to continue the work. For those of us in the Ethiopian Diaspora Civility Forum (EDCF), his passing should also remind us of something fundamental: Ethiopia belongs to all her people—Muslims and Christians, people of every ethnicity and background—and our country's future depends upon our willingness to respect one another's faith, dignity, rights, and humanity. At moments like this, our differences become secondary. We come together as Ethiopians to honor a life of service and to share in the grief of our Muslim brothers and sisters. On behalf of the EDCF community, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, the First Hijrah Foundation, and the entire Ethiopian Muslim community. May Allah (SWT) forgive Haji Najib, shower him with His infinite mercy, accept his decades of service and sacrifice, illuminate his resting place, and grant him the highest rank of Jannatul Firdaus. May Allah also grant his family, friends, and the community he served strength, patience, and comfort during this difficult time. A great Ethiopian community servant has completed his journey, but the legacy of service, courage, faith, and justice that he leaves behind will continue. Rest in eternal peace, Haji Najib Mohammed. Your service will be remembered. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19LqFyretF/
