To place faith either above or equal to ethnicity to qualify someone as belonging to a nation is to be just as much of an inclusive progressive liberal as an advocate of multiculturalism. Both are aberrations rejecting the general historical conception of what determines whether someone belongs to a nation - ethnicity. Language, culture, history and ancestry are particular to ethnic groups. The Christian religion is universal and not exclusively practiced by any one ethnic group. A nation may have a religion practised by the majority of its members, but it has little bearing on whether they belong to that nation. General knowledge among our people of our nation's religious history is valuable. But it must be accepted that nations organically adopt, drop and change religions over time. Denial doesn't change the fact that nations evolve. Evolution is neither good nor bad - it is just a part of nature. But in the interests of social harmony, social change ought to be organic and gradual. Vast and rapid change guided by progressive denials of human nature or religious dogmatism inflict harm and discord. Adherence to a specific religion as a prerequisite to belonging to the English nation is not historically accurate and proponents who say it now should be are motivated by religious zealotry.
