Tafsir Ibn Kathir, in the explanation of Surah al-Qadr, gives an explanation on why Laylatul Qadr is better than 1000 months and why this verse was revealed.
The reports slightly differ but the main theme from them are very similar. A person (or some people) from Banu Israeel worshipped Allah for 80 years (or 1000 months in one report) and did not disobey him in the slightest. They used to stand for Qiyam at night and fight in the path of Allah in the morning and they did that for 80 years (or 1000 months in one report). The Muslims, Sahabah and the Prophet ﷺ were amazed at this so Jibreel (عليه السلام) revealed this verse upon our Prophet ﷺ and said “This is better than what you were amazed at.”
1000 months = 83 years and Laylatul Qadr is better than that. Let us strive hard as we can im the last few days to get 83 (or more) years of good deeds written for us.
