Tonight after Maghrib we will be entering the last 10 nights of Ramadan, they are the most blessed nights in the most blessed month and in it is Laylatul Qadr, the night in which the Quran was revealed [Tafsir Ibn Kathir]. Remember Laylatul Qadr is better than 1000 months.
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whoever fasted the month of Ramadan out of sincere Faith (i.e. belief) and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stood for the prayers in the night of Qadr out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven ." [Bukhari 2014]
Narrated `Aisha:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to practice I`tikaf in the last ten nights of Ramadan and used to say, "Look for the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan." [Bukhari 2020]
When is Laylatul Qadr?
There is no set date for Laylatul Qadr, from the various ahadith we can conclude it is in the last 10 nights, hence why they are the most virtuous, and it is more likely that they are in the odd nights of the last 10. Nevertheless, due to there differing dates, it is recommended and imperative that we all strive as hard as we can on every single night within the last 10 days, that way we will not miss Laylatul Qadr.
Narrated `Aisha:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan." [Bukhari 2017]
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Look for the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan ,' on the night when nine or seven or five nights remain out of the last ten nights of Ramadan (i.e. 21, 23, 25, respectively). [Bukhari 2021]
What can we do?
There are a number of ibadah that we can do on these nights such as:
-Prayer, pray extra nawafil prayers especially tahajjud
-Dua- make dua for whatever you wish, as long as its in the boundaries of shariah, there’s no limit to dua, make dua that you reach the next Laylatul Qadr so you have this opportunity again.
-Dhikr and Salawat- keep your tongue heavy with the remembrance of Allah and thank Him for allowing you to reach another Laylatul Qadr. Keep sending salutations to our Prophet ﷺ.
-Quran- Laylatul Qadr is when the Quran was revealed so give it its right by reciting as much as you can.
-Itikaaf, if you have an opportunity to do so, go do Itikaaf and naturally all the above actions mentioned will increase too.
The Prophet ﷺ used to strive hard in these last ten nights more than any other month. Lets exert ourselves as much as we can now.
